Hello, my names Natalie-Jane.

I grew up in England in a home shaped by stories. Winter evenings were spent by the fire listening to my grandmother, a tea-leaf reader, and hearing stories of her mother, a clairvoyant and medium. Long before I had the language for it, symbolism, imagination, and unseen patterns were simply part of everyday life.

When I was eleven, I received my first tarot deck. While many people approached tarot as a divinatory tool, I found myself captivated by its imagery. I spent hours studying the cards, noticing recurring symbols, inventing connections, and wondering why particular images had endured for centuries. Looking back, I can see that those early experiences profoundly shaped the way I continue to think as an artist.

For more than twenty years I worked professionally as an astrologer, tarot reader, educator, and lecturer. Teaching symbolism through astrology and tarot gave me the opportunity to explore the ways people create meaning through images, archetypes, and story. During that time I developed the ideas that would later become “Inner World Illumination (IWI)” and “The Philosophy of Re-Enchantment”.

Returning to university to study Fine Art marked a natural evolution rather than a complete change of direction. Instead of interpreting symbolic images created by others, I began creating my own. Today my studio practice has become the primary way I investigate the questions that have followed me throughout my life.

Alongside my practice, I continue to research the relationship between art, symbolism, mythology, astrology, and the history of magic. I have lectured on artists including Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Pamela Coleman-Smith, exploring how symbolism, historical context, and creative cycles can offer new ways of understanding artistic practice.

This website brings together the different strands of my work. It is a place to share my evolving studio practice, the development of the “IWI Lexicon”, my research, teaching, and the ideas that continue to shape my creative life. Above all, it is a record of an ongoing curiosity; a belief that art remains one of the richest ways we have of exploring ourselves and our relationship with the world.
